I didn't have tons to spend at the rock show on Sunday, unfortunately (or fortunately, however you look at it!), but I did pick up some slabs from a vendor who had a few tubs full and was selling them for $10 a pound. All kinds of different material, so I tried to pick out some things that I haven't worked with yet. And contrary to what I said last year, I didn't get or write down the names of everything I picked up- so any help with ID would be fantastic! And thanks for looking! This one I do know- Stromatolite from Wyoming. I picked up a fairly large slab of this. I can't remember what he said this was, only that it starts with a "P". I think it's Painintheass Stone. Beautiful stuff but very, VERY hard to work with for me. Tons of fractures. Two soft stones, both unknown. Very nice slabs but I'm thinking I will only get a matte finish with the cabs. And last but not least, this unknown agate (?). More to come later...

the grey and white is pinolith. I just recently got a slab and it crumbled on the trim saw.

the one under the pinolith kinda looks like Indian paint stone. if I remember it only polishes up to matte finish like you were thinking it would

The Stromatolite was kind of a "test cab" since I hadn't worked it before. The slab has some amazing patterns on it, I'll see if I can get a picture of it tonight...

Are these going in the tumbler to finish them? The painintheassite is by far my favorite. I haven't worked with this, but I understand that just because the end result is beautiful, it doesn't make working with it any more enjoyable.

I'm crossing my fingers that the cab is pretty stable, that everything that was going to break off did. There's a pretty decent slab of the Pinolith waiting in case it crumbles and I need to try again.

It’s really weird that painintheassstone is one of the most diverse stones there is. It seems to occur with pretty much any color and pattern you can think of. I’ve worked with a lot of it.
You did a great job with it, and all the others.

Cool cabs, you'd think you would learn a lesson and remember to write the names down but Nooooo, not you...LOL. I do the same thing unfortunately. I do try to carry paper and a pen with me but in the heat of the sale I forget to write things down. Lucky for you there are nice people on the forum who will help with ID. By the way, I have no idea on that last agate so can't help with the id, sorry.

And honestly I didn't even ask- I was in too big of a hurry to get out and hound! That last agate was a one cab slab but I like it. Kind of reminds me of maybe a vase, but I also saw a landscape type scene in it.

I totally agree with Pinolith and Indian Paint stone, yes the Pinolith is a pain, DON'T DROP it lol! Your photography is showing fantastic detail on the cabs but the wood background is distracting. A pretty background but distracting
