I would have thought the only thing you could find in Mississippi is mud if it wasn't for posts like this.

Love that one in the center in the second pic. Looks like a day well spent.

I have a couple of similar rocks. I've heard them called Crowley Ridge agates. Is that what yours is? Lynn

I've never heard of agates in Mississippi before, but those sure are the real deal. I wonder if that storm you folks recently had washed any into view?

Nice. You should be finding Native American points and tools also.

Caption for Figure 8 . . . Samantha Williams is looking at a white sandstone boulder in the pre-loess gravel deposits at the Gibb's gravel pit in western Hinds County, where the base of the gravel deposit is at 330 feet above sea level. The boulder probably floated down the ancient Mississippi River in a block of ice, a process called "ice rafting."
Cool . . . first time I’ve heard/seen that described.

Also enjoyed the letter from the third-grade science teacher on page 10.

Good god, I need to get out. Thanks for sharing. Vicarious hounding will have to do for now.

Hey! I’m from Madison. I mostly hunt around Claiborne county. I’ve been telling all these guys for years we have some of the prettiest agates in the world right here. Since they’re found in abundance I guess I take it for granted. Not a whole lot of Rockhounders to compete with. We should meet up!

Beautiful finds! I miss living on the Gulf coast. We used to hound on the Boga Chitta and Tangipahoa rivers when I was young. Still have a banded chert from there. My favorite rock
