Wondering if anyone here knows something about old player piano rolls? Friends/neighbors had some for sale at a multi-generation cleaning out sale. When told the price of what was left, I took them all. I did not get there until the 3rd day of sale. Some are rather obscure, WWI songs. All are pre-1920, as near as I can tell. Almost all are in excellent condition. After finding the lyrics, this is one I am very curious about. When Tony Goes Over the Top. Another is the Somewhere in France is Daddy. From what I found, the song was highly acclaimed for the powerful lyrics. I have always admired the early 1900's piano rolls, but could never afford any until now. I know that a few of what I purchased are only worth maybe $1.00-$2.00 each. Plan on making some wall art from those (maybe). I usually do not destroy pieces of history, so am a little torn. Appreciate any input. Thank you. Everything. End of Tony. Tony Box. Tony roll end. Portion of Tony roll showing words.

What an awesome find!! We saw a bunch at our local thrift store a few months back, and I wanted to buy them but had zero idea what I would do with them (Full disclosure, I also checked ebay to find out what they were worth and decided it wasn't worth the effort to resell them). I love the art idea. Please share some pictures when you do. I'd probably cut some of your favorite sections out, and frame them in a reclaimed wood frame with a colorful mat.
I think piano is especially beautiful and some of those old songs have a real timeless quality about them.

My father bought a player piano in the mid-60s, a large upright like you'd see in an old saloon (I have more info, but not at my fingertips at the moment). When he purchased it, he converted the "player" part to run using a vacuum cleaner motor, so you don't have to pump the pedals. He saved all the original parts.
It has not been played in years, is currently residing in his garage. My sister has been trying to rehome it for some time now. It is a project, not real rough, but it is free. You just have to make arrangements to come and get it, or arrange for movers to come and get it. It is located in San Diego 92111.
I had a friend that knows someone that wanted to use it for a prop in his "old west town" but his wife nixed it.
If anyone is interested, just let me know. I have info on the make, age, etc., as well as a bunch of photos. I'm sure there are player rolls to go with it.
