WoW!! Nice stuff Tony ... how deep is deep? I always thought diving was neat and wanted to learn when I was younger ... now I'm chicken. How long did it take you to collect this stuff? Looks like a gorgeous place to go camping. Do you only find it in the water? Every go hiking around to look for it?

Way cool, Tony. Is Jade common along much of the California coast or just the Big Sur area? How deep did you have to go to get that stuff? What do you plan to do with it? And it looks like some of the rocks have some purple on them -- it could just be the lighting -- is that part of the jade or has the jade been fused to another rock and then rounded by the water and sand? Questions, questions.

Looks like you got some good stuff and, more importantly, sounds like it was a great time! I'm afraid that my underwater rockhounding efforts don't take me any deeper than the tops of my rubber boots ;D

Jade is found from big sur to san luis obispo county. It can be found on the shoreline and in the cliffs. I dive in the jade cove area as it is most plentiful there. I found these pieces using scuba in about 30 ft of water, i found most in caves with a halogen light. The pinkish colors on some of them are coraline algae, it comes off when you grind or put in the tumbler. Sometimes you might get lucky and find a gem of a piece on the beach. A couple years ago my friend found a 144 blue boluder right on the shoreline after a large strom, it was a great find. Here is a photo i found years ago in deep water, it was covered with algae.

Hey Tony. Nice haul. Looks like some of the smaller pieces are transluscent. Want any of those cut and ground? Send me an IM, maybe we can work out a trade.

how do you swim around with big rocks? don't they pull you to the bottom? if a shark comes up what do you do bash him in the nose with a rock?

Hey Fishman, When you go send me a e-mail, i can give you some tips on where the secret spots are. Also Plaskett campground is right across the road from there and is a good place to camp. I always stay at kirk Creek, its right on the bluff and has a incredable view, but its several miles away. When i dive i always carry a lift bag to inflate underwater, you never know when you might find a large boulder. As for sharks, there are great whites in the area. When i dive i always carry a piece of jade with me, it puts a protective force field around me and wards them off. It also helps to drink lots of beer !!! Tony
