I would have used a sander to get the bigger roughness removed, than started tumbling... These are small, maybe go to a 60/90 grit, see what happens after five days..

If you are unhappy with the coarse stage 1 rounding (many people with think they are just fine now, but this is a personal decision), then put them back into coarse grit again BUT keep an eye on them. I'd check them daily. Alternatively, go to stage 2 and if necessary, leave them in a bit longer until you get the rounding you desire. Stage 2 still does some rounding. If it were me, I would put them into stage 2 and still keep an eye on the progress.

I'm kind of with greig on this. I'd consider moving to the next stage and see what you get. As he mentioned, there will still be *some* material removal, though not nearly as drastic as the coarse stage. I think if you go another round of coarse, you risk losing some of the banding/color that you have in the first rock. If you move them along with the "imperfections," just be sure to clean those areas well before going into subsequent stages. Those are the areas that may trap grit. I'll be curious to see how that first rock (with the red banding) turns out. My initial perception is that the agatized portion will polish well, but the brown part may not. It should make for an interesting looking piece when finished. ETA: Forgot to ask...what size tumbler are you using with the 46/70?

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll move them on to step two and just make sure to keep a close eye on them.
