The other night I decided I'd try my hand at wire wrapping a cab so got out some copper wire and found some instructions on the web. Just as I was starting 2 of my daughters and 3 of my grandkids showed up. They were all intersted so we all sat down and wrapped some cabs. Here are the results of our first attempts. Aren't we a talented family. I don't think we are quite ready to use gold/silver wire yet.

Nice first cabs! Without knowing who wrapped which, and without me knowing squat about wrapping, I will boldly choose the best wrapper as the person who did the stone on the bottom right

I like them all - the top left: the colors really inhance the stone - I'm with RS on the best being the lower right - but they're all very good - I like the blue stone in the lower left (sodalite)

I like the one on the lower left, very artistic. Like that stone too. What is it, sodalite?

i must admit, i like the design of the lower left that accentuates the wire design, but i'm partial to the lower right as a showcase for the stone. all of them are excellent efforts for the first time and are better than anything i can do even after my hundredth try!!

Not bad at all, that is wonderful that your learning experiece turned into a family affair. Tami

They all look good to me. Everytime I try to wrap a stone, it winds up looking like I used a pubic hair from the Bionic Woman for wire. Good job. Now go get some gold wire.

What a totally fun thing to do, I'll bet you guys had a blast playing with the stones. Nothing like bringing the family all together making something and just having fun. I think they are all great!

The bottom middle stone is a special one because my grandson ( age 10 ) found that one when they were on holidays last week. He brought it over and we cabbed it together. The top right cab he did all by himself - found, cabbed and wired. All the other cabs are my practice rocks - Grandpa.
I need some support here. I suggested to my wife that we wrap the other 100 or so cabs I've done and run a string accross the wall near the ceiling of the kitchen. We could hang the wire wrapped cabs from the string. I think that would look really nice but I definitely get the feeling my wife is not near as keen as I am to the idea. She hasn't exactly said no but I can tell by "THE LOOK" that she really doesn't want them in the kitchen. I tried suggesting the bathroom as an alternative. I think it would give people something to admire while they are going about their business. Don't you think that's a good idea?

LMAO- Hmm your wife sounds very unreasonable!!!! I would string them up in the kitchen and then do more fro the livingroom bedroom bathroom - well you get the idea! My wife allowed me to have my sons basement room (yea the one I built!) for a workshop- then told me last night that ALL rock and rock related stuff had to be in there! (I have no less than 250 Lbs of stuff scattered throughout the house). She said she was sick of all the "rock crap" laying all over the house!

That's a cool idea! I find some people are more open to different ideas & decorating styles. My MIL only likes stuff that is expensive and nothing "hand made" specially if her sister doesn't approve - so the beaded X-Mas ball I gave her last year will probably be hidden somewhere behind the tree! All the kids fridge crafts have their hour on the fridge, but they're gone as soon as we leave. My mom still has my crafts from grade school and still displays it too (my daughter can laugh at most of them)
Hey BillE are you going to the Bancroft Gemboree this August?

stoner, you owe me a new keyboard since the ensuing spit take when I read your post made lime soda fly all over it. That's what my wraps look like too. I have, as I am first to admit, the wrapping talent of a demented sea otter (but MAN..put a stone on my belly and I'll crack clams til the cows come home...but I digress). Excellent wraps there folks...are those beads on the bottom right one? I think I might try that. Nice job and thanks for sharing.

Herm- and now you owe me a new keyboard! I re-read your post 5 or 6 times and had this vision of you putting tumbled stones in your bellybutton!!!!!! I think I may have wet myself also- then I finially understood what you were implying- then I laughed even harder (I think my co-workers are gonna have me committed!)

Yes we are going to Bancroft the end of the month. First time I have gone to something like this. Any suggestions on what to do and what not to miss?

Now, if I had to pick a favorite, it would be the middle wrap, bottom row. Susan

I love the bottom left wrap and the bottom right rock. Any chance of rearranging the two? ...just kidding. They are all great looking. Joe
