Can I tumble calcite and what would the final results look like? Calcite is soft so I presume it should be best tumbled by itself with filler of some sort?

Very very soft and very very hard (difficult) to polish, It shapes like a dream in hours but getting a polish is near impossible. You could try dry with corn cob media. There was a thread here a while back about tumbling fluorite, hunt it up, the information will apply as well to Calcite.

I don't know how it will do in a vibe tumbler, but it doesn't do very well in a rotary with standard grits. I once tried walnut shell in a rotary and that kept them from grinding down but also didn't result in much of a polish.
