VideoThis was my first time, so I understand that it's not finished and I should have worked longer on the lower grits to get the deeper scuffs out. But isn't it a cool agate/amethyst?! I think it may be from Lake Superior. I really enjoyed being able to see a new and finer detail within the agate after each time I swapped out to a finer grit.

Nice piece. I've been grinding rocks for 20 years and self taught, so I've learned a lot the hard way. Flat surfaces are more difficult to remove scratches than domed surfaces. Your goals were to see how the discs worked the stone and to see approximately how the stone would look finished. I've learned a lot in the last year. Most importantly to figure out the sanding patterns to make sure that I got the entire face. I really hate to have to go back to a lower grit. I do a lot of inspections after a lower grit to check for scratches and my eyes don't see enough. I've found that rubbing a pencil over the face does a good job of showing the scratches.

Yeah I wouldn't want to repeat doing that either. Thank you for the advice!
