Since the "Autumn leaves" jasper generated some discussion of its origin, I figured people might be interested in seeing just a little of the variety available in the Golden State.

It is kind of like this months contest -- very broad, and includes some material that probably isn't jasper but is marketed as such, and then some "jasperized" materials like petrified wood

Yeah, I know. And those thefts were a two-fer. I made some stone inlays for the wood-work he was doing, and lieu of getting paid he was supposed to make the dai for some suiseki stones, but he took off and disappeared with the stones instead. I lost three of the four Cache Creek and the Lake Berryessa specimen that way. Luckily those places are a short drive, but I'm not certain I'll find similar pieces to some of those again. Maybe it's karma for something I did in a previous life, so I won't wish him too ill.
