Warren sent me pics to post for you guys from Agate Days so I'll start with the main event. This was Saturday afternoon, temps in the 90's, humidity about 8,000% (well that's what it felt like). My apologies to those on dial-up (myself included). Warren had them reduced and I resized them even more so hope they aren't too bad. Enjoy Cher -------------------------------------- This is looking down the main street while people wait impatiently for the Agate Stampede to begin. Next two show both sides of the street where the masses lay in wait to attack. Side view just to show you, this was a big load. Not sure how Warren to this pic, getting a little close there weren't ya? There's 300 pounds of agates and $300.00 in quarters all mixed in the load. The gun went off, the barriers dropped and the crowd went crazy. And I'm serious as a heart attack ... they are nuts! This last one is a pic of the Kids Stampede. I'm somewhere in the crowd, on the right side trying to keep an eye on my grandson. Last year a few little ones got hurt so they decided to give them their own little stampede.

You couldn't just grab, you had to dig through the gravel to find the agates and $$. It was all hidden in several yards of gravel.

I asked the driver if I could - at my own risk - take a picture. he said go ahead stand here so I did and grabed 1 shot and climbed down. Then I got the H out of the way. I thought the driver did a very good job on speading this load a little heavy at first but did make it to the end of the street. Thanks Cher for posting these for me

Hey....I looked real close at all those pictures and didn't see one Moose...
I think I would have stood back and watched the crowd....take pictures and stay in the shade if there was any..

That is just awesome. Thanks for sharing those pictures....toooooo dang funny. I can relate to that because there was a small community in Wyoming that used to do something similar but with trout. They'd sandbag the street to make a makeshift pond, fill up the pond w/ water from the hydrant and then dump in hundreds of fish and let the kids go crazy. It seriously was funniest thing I've ever seen. The ankle-deep pond was full of kids (parents not too far away). The event took a priceless turn when the hatchery truck backed up and unloaded it's water and fish right onto some of the awaiting kids and parents. Kids were knocked in, parents were falling all over the place and it was sheer bedlam. Some kids were crying out of horror, some out of happiness as the trout swam in and out of their feet. Some trout managed to jump the banks and were swimming "up sidewalk" like salmon spawning in shallow creek beds. Some kids chased them up the sidewalk while others jumped onto chairs or street posts to get the freak outta the way. Fish were flying into people's hair as they squirted out of hands. It was nuts. Here are some picts of my daughter who happened to land a nice one.....wish I'd had a video camera. Oh there's nothing like small town gatherings. I didn't mean to hijack the thread (I hope no one is offended) but it seemed to go w/ the Moose Lake scramble. gaetz

Gaetz that was so funny So how do trout tumble?? We have the Holland Tulip Festival- Nothing to great - rides craft show, big parade (with queens and such) and the local hardware store that always makes a float that just cracks everyone up (they always make fun of something politcal going on in the town) they used to allow the local racetrack drivers bring the cars on the street- but I guess the sound of 25 modifieds reving the engins was just too much!

Gaetz that is too cute. I can't believe the kids could hang on to them, those suckers are so slippery. Looking at the smile on her face, I'd say she had a darn good time doing it though.
