We are having some construction done at the house and the conractor brought me a piece of dinosaur bone he says someone gave him. I sliced a piece off the end and made a cab. The interesting part is that I forgot to turn off the flash for the first picture and it captured an interesting effect. If you look at the centre of the cab you will see a picture of a deer. It looks like a cave drawing. I wonder if the bone is from a deer? The cab took a great shine. It just glistens like glass. Shine doesn't show as good in the pictures. See the cave drawing of the deer.

Forgot to ask - Do you think this really was a dinosaur bone? It doesn't really matter, it made an interesting cab.

I am not so sure it is Dinosaur bone. It looks like boulder opal. It is hard to really see over the internet. It does really look good. Dino bone does not really take a good polish. However, fossils found in different locations absorb different minerals. Cool find.

Don't know anything about dino bones but that is really neat, I can see it in the second pic too. Looks like you got an awesome shine there. Thanks for sharing.

I have no clue if it's a Dino bone, but I do see the deer! Cool shot.
looks kind of like something the Inuit's still make today (carvings in pots, etc...)

Not like any of the dino bone I have seen (only a few chunks on this site)- but that does not mean anything. Cool looking cab- Oh and I saw the deer- in the first pix- the second one looks like a whale?

BillE- All the dino bones I've seen have really distinctive "cells". Once you get a taste of how the "cells" are patterned, it's really hard to mistake them. Here are a couple of picts of my dino bones that Stoner polished for me. I'll also throw in a pict of something I thought was dino bone, but turned out to be tabulated coral. You can see the "cells" don't even come close to matching. The bottom of your first pict kind of shows some of the familiar cells, but it's hard to tell. Maybe you could take a better photo for us. I'd love to get a closer look at it!! Here they are: This pict show the tabulated coral (pictured at top.) You can see it has some patterning in it, but not even close to the cells in dino bone. Hope this helps and hope to see you repost some photos. By the way, I loved the deer reflection....way cooool. gaetz
