I have been wrapping for abt 20 years, really 22, I think. I have made plenty of stinkers. Especially in the beginning.
I photograph just abt everything, even though most of the early originals are gone, I still have some crap pixs.
As you can tell by the following, I'll try just about anything. LOL! Some of these are extraordinary fails. If I had any sense, I wouldn't post them, but I want all newbies to see that you have to start somewhere.
I began with the sculpted wire style and some videos, but quickly learned that I didn't like it, so my style started morphing into my self taught traditional border wrap style. I really prefer much less wire.
Please don't tell me how much these suck, because I know. LOL!
I must have been on drugs!
Funny story about this- I made this for my SIS for her wedding day. I just started wrapping and was really excited- she politely declined.

While I do prefer your current styles, no one could say that the above is not artistic. Definitely talent shines through. The worst day of fishing is better than the best day at work. Like, the worst of rockjunquie wraps are better than my best attempts.

I just picked what I thought were some of my worst.

Speaking for all newbies, these "fails" as you call them are still nice. Intricate work, very artistic. Yep, I may prefer your current style over these, but they're still good!

Wow! While some of those may be a little bit extravagant, in that the wrap pulls attention away from the stones, I would not call them fails. There is no denying the artistry and skill that went into them. They will not be for everyone, but I know plenty of people who would love them. Heck, for some people a fancy wire creation is what it's all about, and they couldn't care less about the stone, but then they probably aren't RTHlings (now that I get it, I'm totally using that term). It's kind of like framing art. Some people like the the heavy, baroque gilded frames, while others prefer a simple, narrow, black one. You've shown that you can have broad appeal. Also, kudos to you for showing humility and owning up to what you consider less-than-perfect work. In fact, we should have an "early work" or "then and now" thread to show the newcomers that there is hope. I may just start that thread later today.

It took me forever to catch on to RTHling, too. A lightbulb went on over my head and I felt a little silly for not getting it sooner.

Well, I got the ball rolling on the "Then and Now" thread under "General Rocks Board." I've learned that I have a great idea for "somebody" to do something... I'm somebody.

I have to agree with everything Stephan has to say here. Truly thank you Tela for being willing to show the one's you're not as proud of as others you've done...and that everyone begins "somewhere"! And as others have said, far better than I could do! The only other thing I'll say is I wish that I had been your wire supplier back then!

Thanks for posting. I like some of the above, but prefer your present styles. Evolution is a great thing.

I'm not too proud. LOL!
Hey, when I started gold and silver were dirt cheap. I could never wrap like that now- although, I will say that is NOT what guided my final style. I just don't like wire covering the stones.

Thanks for sharing these, Tela! Reminded me of stuff I did when I was first learning.
Unfortunately I didn't take pictures of my epic fails because I tore them up and started over. Sometimes I'd tear them up before I was even 1/2 done.
