Have noticed lately that the belts on my 2 belt Expando Drum unit tend to drift after a couple minutes of use. It's very annoying as I need to turn the unit off, re-set the belt and go again. My assumption is that the drums themselves have lost their expandability and no longer grip the belts tightly. I bought the unit used over 3 years ago so not sure how old they are. Suppose I need to buy 2 new Drums to fix the issue. Does that sound correct?
When I bought belts I made sure they were the correct dimension for the Expando Drums.
Thanks Henry

Hey Hank
I had that problem, and yes my new expando as fixed the problem. Happy to report I got really good deal/.
Yet I’m not 100% sure the old expando was the problem. The belts I was using were pretty old and weather beaten. It seemed that when I used new belt the problem did stop.
But then I bought a new expando and I’ve had no problem with any belts.
The other issue I experience was that the Lortone cabber wasn’t sitting level. Being level helps.
Anyway good luck with it pal. Grinding a stone on carriage movement had it challenges. Altho in a controlled experimental situation it may be a new technique. Kind of like those wood orbital sanders. right on & grind on mohs

The problem has occurred on new belts as well as old belts. Will start shopping around for new Expando Drums.
I am not a wasteful person and I thought about some way to fix the drums so that they grip better. There's probably no way to do that but it does give me something to ponder on while I do my daily(mostly) walks.

yep hank I tried a rim of duct tape on the expando's edge didn't really help and made a sticky mess
that old expando of mine was dropped also that caused about 1/4 of one side to be out of balance i could work around that
but the next season I started having the more serious carriage belt grind
so I suppose it wore out expando a bit discouraging
what kind preservative could one use to keep the rubber pliable...?

Silicone spray is what you want to keep rubber pliable and prevent cracking.
