Some new ones, and a couple of touch-ups: DSC_1693_Five new cabs by Stephan T., on Flickr Top row: ====== * Brecciated Coast Range jasper of unknown origin -- Made from a slablet that suggested the shape * Stony Creek jasper -- The yellow jasper is a little punky and undercut, which is typical for this material. I love the green * Brecciated Coast Range jasper -- Still leaning toward Central Coast, like Cayucos (started last week, touched up today) Bottom row: ======== * Kambaba jasper -- Fossilized algae; unusual with red orbs (made earlier, touched up girdle) * Marcasite agate -- just a little piece I found in a crate; likely Nipomo material

Of course they're all gorgeous, but that Brecciated Coast Range jasper is the pièce de résistance!

The cab on the bottom left is called Bristlecone Pine Forest Oolite (because that is where it is found). When I first came across it, I originally thought it was a stromatolite, but I don't think it is. Some call it oolitic limestone. Here's a link to the post on RTH several years ago. forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/post/913336/threadIt's pretty distinctive. You don't see it real often, but there's no mistaking it when you do. jasoninsd : Thanks! Appreciate the feedback. That brecciated one is the lead contender for submitting to the jasper contest. rockpickerforever : Thanks! Red and green oolite? Cool! miket : Always freeforms. The fact that I do have a calibrated shape in this set should be somewhat surprising to most people.
