One of the reasons I like doing lapidary work is dealing with the challenges and decision making. I have a really nice Morgan Hill slab and was able to frame a pattern where everything lines up, except slabs are 3 dimensional and this one's pattern makes a really quick turn. The slab is a little thick .28 inches for a flat top and losing the framing when doming ruins the piece. I could try to guess what the centering will be and move the shape to the right. I have a quarter inch to work with before it runs into a fracture. The bottom has clear quartz creeping into the pattern but I only have an 1/8 inch to move it up until it runs into a knife edge. Since the bulls-eye is in the middle, I'm going to put a lower than usual dome on it, grind the middle as little as possible and cross my finger.

Through 280 soft. Sanding and pre-polishing won't change the pattern. The white quartz showed up as expected. I would rather it be there as opposed to truncating the bottom.

This is just another great example of what an amazing eye you have for finding the problem areas and working towards the solutions in your cabs. Again, you really are an inspiration, example, and a "teacher" to those of us (me!) who are just starting out! So, thank you for posting things like this! Way to hit the "target" area on this one!

I like the contrast of the quartz. I don’t see it as a problem at all.

Before seeing your follow ups I would have suggested that the description exacts a freeform (dreaded word I know) solution. But I can tell that you made the best out of the material (as usual) that you could have. I would have just messed it up, myself.
The result is striking! Thanks for sharing!
