I slabbed a piece of Morgan Hill rough. The heel had a nice pattern so I drew two preforms and ground the rough side flat. I saw vugs on the edges, but since I liked the pattern decided to proceed and hope they ground off when I domed. This is the result.
I looked at the second preform and there were vugs on the back and the sides. I knew that I could take down the back to get rid of them.
I took a look at the edges and decide that even making the preform smaller, I was looking at potential disaster and abandoned it. Vugs can either get better, stay the same or get worse. Fractures go from front to back but vugs are hidden.
