I followed the instructions to a "T" this should have turned out near perfect - my stone was the correct size but the prongs indicated in the instructions don,t seem to be adequate - something's buggy. BTW I used grown up wire - sterling silver square & half round wire.) I was waiting to get this rock out of polish to try this out as it was the correct size, but am very dissapointed in the results, I much prefer my freehand wrapping instead of this structured stuff. Here is what it should have looked like: This is what mine looks like: I quit even really trying once I discoved the prongs didn,t hold the stone in place - the bottom could have been better had I tried - but I was just so P-Oed Some of you may have noticed a big stripe of tape in the middle, this keeps the stone in the prongs - think I can wear it with the tape? You can laugh now - I sure am - ;D

Just a suggestion. I think if you take a marking pen and colour the tape the same colour as the rock no one will notice the tape is even there.

awwww, I'm so sorry to see that. Tweetie, the next time you want to follow instructions, try with craft wire first, and make mental notes of what could make the piece better. Then after all that hard work, take it all apart and do it all over again in silver.

Maybe one of those clear Band-Aids would be more attractive. We even have some clear ones with The Incredibles on them ... no one else will have a cab like that! ;D

Tweet- The wrap looks good- I think you were pretty close with this one- I'm guessing the stone was just not quite right (not sure but possible a bit thinner than it should be) Nice try- oh and the tape makes a nice effect.

Tweet, it looks to me like you came dangerously close. Can you grab those prongs with your pliers and draw them towards the center a little more, front and back? Methinks you just need a bit more "prong". BANJO - HELP HER! Susan

I'm sorry Tweet, it's so disappointing to have big plans, be all excited about them and not have it turn out. I think you just needed something flatter like the cab in the pic. I'd watch the loads for something flatter and try it again, it's a pretty pattern.

awwww tweetie i know that was disappointing. i can tell you were really clipping along there on that one. the stone has a bulbous "forehead" that is causing a problem at the top. wonder if you could create some wire design that goes across that bulbous part joining the two prongs and holding the stone in. then flip the whole thing upside down making the large part be the bottom and the flatter end be the top. incorporate the "bail" into the design somehow and add a jump ring at the top to hang it on a chain or beaded necklace.

I'm also dissapointed in the half round wire which I though would be better to do the fastening, but I guess I need "flatter" half round, and the half hard square wire was very hard to bend around the shape. I think that's the last time I use a pattern, I think I could have done much better than this "traditional" wrap, I've seen much better on this site BTW - but I thought I'd give it a try anyways, I'm definately gonna redo this one as I rather like the stone - I have plans for this one (without the tape this time!). Stay tuned...

After looking at your wrapping again, the only thing I noticed was the stone you used has a fat head if it had been thinner the wrapping would have worked perfectly. Tami

It does have a fat head, but even the skinnier bottom didn't fit - the prongs were not long enough to hold it in place. wonder if I can reuse the wire - I can straighten round wire, not sure how square wire will behave if I pull them through nylon jaw pliers??

All you can do is try to straighten it. Tami
