Don't know what this rock is, but it came from the Southern California desert east of me. I think it qualifies as orbicular! Three photos of same rock. Interesting. It looks like it formed as layer on top of something else.

Incredible find @jadedvision ! Thanks! Looks like a few of us rthers had a pretty successful weekend rockhounding mission. And some didn't!! LOL Those are gorgeous! That first one is particularly special! I love the colors in it! Any clue what it is...other than an "orbicular jasper"?

Here are some close ups of the one's I recently picked up at the estate sale. Classic old Cave Creek Poppy. Some Hornitos I am guessing OJ Hornitos on this one. Thanks Tommy and Mel.

I'm calling Hornitos on this last one. The dark red near the bottom right is the tell - looks like classic original Hornitos coloration to me. Maybe Sabre52 will chime in on that one.

Yep, classic Hornitos on that last one. Those flow lines and distortion are common in Hornitos too.

jcooks I had noticed the great orbs in that chunk when you posted it in another thread. Very cool. There is some gorgeous poppy action in this thread. Look forward to seeing what you do with these once you get your saws going.

I have a good bit more of varying quality that I'll have to post up. I have a bunch that have what I call "micro orbs" that I think will make really cool cabs. I'll definitely be posting pics of everything once I can start getting stuff worked up. I need to do some research on here about how to heal it before I work with it, a lot of these snow mountain orbicular jaspers are really fractured up.

Fantastic looking cabs!! I love those color tones in those pieces! They look like they have a "patina" to the colors...which make them seem "older" than they are.

I bought these slabs from Martin Kramer at the slab depot Facebook page a few days ago. I bought from Martin on ebay as philosphestone 20 years ago. This is Loma Prieta Poppy Jasper from Morgan Hill. Loma Prieta has a special meaning to me. In 1989, in the middle of the World Series between Oakland and San Francisco there was a major earthquake. It collapsed a section of the Oakland/San Francisco Bay Bridge, an elevated section of freeway in Oakland and the Embarcadero freeway in SF. I was hitting baseballs to my son prior to his soccer practice and I could see waves moving through the ground. My wife was on the freeway. Our house was not damaged and my wife made it home ok. I have purchased this material before only knowing it as Morgan Hill. Martin knows his poppy.

Watching the ground do the ‘wave’ had to be a crazy visual experience. I’m glad your wife made it home safely. Cool rock. It reminds me a bit of a honeycomb.
