When you're looking for agate and find fossilized alphabet soup instead

Holy Schnykees I love that thing! I just purchased a couple slabs of Crinoidal Limestone off eBay and am looking forward to making some cabs with it. Are you planning on tumbling this one, or leaving it as is?

Are you planning on tumbling this one, or leaving it as is? Did I just get an accidental ID? I'm happy about that! This one I think I will keep as a specimen as I'm not convinced it won't disintegrate if I try to do anything with it. Maybe later when I'm more experienced. Would love to see your cabs though.

I'm FAR from an expert...just beginning myself! They look like fossilized crinoids to me. If you google fossilized crinoids, there's a ton of similar looking pieces out there. I just finished my second ever cab, so I'm leaving the crinoidal limestone until I get a few more under my belt. I'll see if I can post a couple pictures of the slabs...but will definitely post pics of the cabs once done.

It looks like some poor extinct animal’s false teeth got fossilized in there lol...

I agree with Jason on ID about the fossils, though I would have no idea on the matrix ID. Fossil crinoids, a marine animal, are super common in OK. They are not only in rocks, but sometimes the little disks and columns are just laying around loose. But with rare exceptions, the matrix is always cruddy and too soft, probably the limestone Jason is hinting at. However, a few years ago, I found some in some hard rock and need to post a pic and get some opinions about it. Once you study the shape of the entire adult crinoid, which is a lot like a branching plant, you will have a feel in your mind for the various parts and at times even find evidence of the central disk from which the various branches originate.
In my general recollection though, don't think I've ever seen in any states near the Canadian border ever. Cool rock you have!

jasoninsd nailed it crinoidal agate. I am assuming it is harder than limestone could be agate, chert, flint. Good job jason

If the matrix and crinoid is soft you can quartz cap it for jewelry use.
