KD wanted to see pictures of the OJ I had ordered. This picture is just a few of the 7 pounds I ordered, but you get the idea of the quality. I got Lots of big pieces, lots of medium pieces, and lots of small pieces, and lots of garbage at the bottom of the bag. Some rocks have vugs, some have no vugs.

Good looking stuff- I had a bit of "scrap" in the bottom of my box also- Tossed it all (sand and everything) into the tumbler- I actually came out with some nice interesting small chips and such- Perfect for drilling and using as beads (of course drilling them is almost as time consuming as tumbling them!)

I just might do the same (toss it all in the barrel). Certainly wouldn't hurt.
Still about 10 days until I have a free barrel. it's going to go by sooooo sloooowwwww

no custom fee's this time around Tweetie. It was just left by my door by Mr. Mailman. It was declared as "Unworked Rock".
I paid $4 US a pound for the Ocean Jasper (Totaling $28) , and $5 a pound for the Ocean Wave Agate (Totaling $15). So for a 10 pound box, they charged me $19.15 for Surface (which took 8 days)
I've put some Ocean Jasper in a box for you to try, and will be shipping them out to you soon. They're not Grade A pieces, but then again, I don't have the best pieces either. They're all pretty much the same as quality goes.

i think you got some nice pieces for $4/lb alice. i think the vugs are just common to the ocean jasper like it is to the lace agate. you may find some vugs hidden inside the ones that look solid.

Alice, that's so nice of you! I'm checking over what I have here to see what I could send over your way. What are vugs?

vugs are holes / tiny caves with small crystals inside. Sometimes they're impossible to tumble out, and you'll always have that vug. BillE's pendant has a vug in it forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/index.cgi?board=Pictures&action=display&thread=1122310938You could probably take a chisel and break the rock so that it breaks along the fault line, and have better luck having a vug free rock, but sometimes there's no "fault line" and you're stuck with a geode look. Don't worry about sending me anything Tweetie. I have over a years worth of rocks to tumble. Just enjoy what I sent you, and show us the results afterwords in the photo section. Alice

Kim, you're right about the vugs. I've had many rocks which apeared to be solid on the outside and about 3 weeks into coarse found some vuggy stuff.
With the ocean jasper, I find the the pieces that are white with green & Yellow are the ones with the most vugs. One of the green rocks that I have has a vug with green crystals... it's the first time I've ever seen dark green crystals like that. It's kinda cool!
Vugs seems to happen mostly in agates, and sometimes in Jaspers. From what I've observed anyway.

I got some local agate from Puppies and one of the more interesting peices has deep vugs, and they are standing up to tumbling, so when the outer surface is shiney, I will still have these pretty geode inclusions in the stone. It's going to be beautiful, but that little sucker is HARD, so it's taking a while to get to polish.
