Hi all, I'm very new here... Doing a search on this forum for "tumbling Amethyst" yielded an informative post from 2009... wondering if any improvements have been discovered since then. There seemed to be a heavy focus on the filler material for each stage My starting material is Amethyst from KingsleyNorth. I have an MJR 6lb rotary for the rough stage. I also have a Lot-o for the finer stages and polish. (my grit supply is 46/70, 60, 220, 500 AO, AOxide Polish, and Borax) I have had partial success in tumbling Mexican Crazy Lace, and was wondering if I should treat this Amethyst run the same way? Recommendations for grit/ceramics/time on the MJR 6lb? Recommendations for grit/plastic/time on the Lot-o? Thanks so much, I appreciate any help! ~Storm

I learned a lot from Shannon on the Reiki Gems videos (the 2nd video above). She always shows all of the steps and her recipes.

Amethyst is a little more tender than agate. Listen to what your barrels are telling you. Use lots of smalls. Remove bad cracks, or chips, that are likely to come off, or harbour grit. And if at first you don’t succeed, try again!
