Well here it is- the first finished Arkie Lace Cab- It was an end cut and I could not just toss it into the tumble pile- It has a varied thickness but came out pretty good- Unfortunatly the opal wood still has some scratches that I just can't seem to get out- and a bit closer I'm putting these photos in from the laptop so I'm not really sure if they came out ok or not- Dang it is time for a new computer!

Pictures look fine Stefan... And the cab looks real nice too! but which one has the right color? the top picture shows the top of the rock as brown, and the bottom picture shows the top part of the rock as red. Someone's been playing with their imaging program

Stefan that is really nice, now what are your plans with this? I'm hoping that this is not destined for the candy dish, maybe ask you daughter if she wants to wrap it? That mexican lace looks a lot like Llana's lace... Stefan, you got real good, real fast didn't you? I'm impressed

Not sure what is gonna happen to this one??? I was gonna offer it up for the name game but it is nowhere the level of KD or Sands or Banjo I was playing with the imaging software- But the pix look the same on the laptop (see what I mean) the color is a reddish brown (almost rust colored) And No Tweet I did not get good fast- I have been grinding every chance I get- This little project took me over and Hour to get correct- I have 30 cabs in various states of disarray and I can't seem to figure out HOW to get the scratches off of the flats on most of em- But I am having fun!

That's pretty Stefan, I like the swirls of crazy lace. You ARE getting good fast but it's the practice that does it. Think it was John but not sure that said to put one away each week so you can watch your progress, have you done that?

They're looking great Stefan! I know how orange it is. Here are a few cabs I'm working on from the Orange Crazy Lace. My camera quit on me last week and I had to ship it in to be fixed. Had to do these on the scanner. Trish

Trish, if & when you send that order for me (once I get a shipping price), I would REALLY REALLY like that color (the one that,s pictured in your cabs) if at all possible! I NEED THAT color! I'M hoping you still have some of that left *prays that shipping isn't too expensive & that Susan has a ton of this color left*!
PS Susan you've gotten amazing very fast too (unless you could do this before but never mentioned it)

Lookin' good Stephan. If your having trouble getting scratches off your stones, you're probably going to the next grit too soon. Try taking the stone back to the second grit and go over it real good, dry it, and look at it under a good light. If all the scratches look uniform in size, go to the next grit and repeat the process. By the time you get done with 1200, it should take a decent polish with little or no scratches.

I have been trying that ed- But I think I'm dropping the ball at the 220 Stage- Arkie those were incredible! Cher- I have only finished a couple of cabs (this is only my 4th that I could say FINISHED!) But I do have some in various states and will probably date them and try to keep track of my progress- Tweet- If Trish (or was it Susan *chuckles at Tweets excitment* has any red left I'm sure she will send some- What I have found with the reds- is that they seem to be the least stable so far! I cut one today that all the red just crumbled away! But if you can get it sandwiched between other colors it seems to hold up better!

that is a winner, Stefan, nice work! and Trish! i love those cabs, too! nice work on getting the bevel even.
Stefan, i feel your pain with the scratches. it's so disheartening to think you've finished one only to look at it in the sunshine and see the imperfections in the center of the flats. i'm assuming you are doing this all by hand and not using dop sticks at all? Dopping helps this by giving you better access for all those "hard to reach" places. but even then you must not jump up the grit cycle too soon without inspecting your stone thorougly. what i do sometimes is work on several pieces at once and let one piece dry off completely on a window sill as i work on another one, if scratches are still evident it's easier to go back one or two steps than to get all the way to polish and then discover the flaws.

Thanks KD- Yea I'm feehanding it- I should just get the crazy glue out and dop the things! I usually work on 5 or 6 at a time- I dry em off but I seem to get stuck after the 220- (especially the flats!) I'l grind and grind- only to discover that the scratches are appearing as I go on! I just need to work it- plus I think my 400 and 600 belt have just about died- I fliped em over but they just don't seem to have much left to em- Ahh but I do have fun and I am learning-

I also learned that dopping would be a good idea. I'm just using a bench grinder and sometimes fingers get mighty close to the wheel and dopping might give me more confidence to "really get in there" So far, I'm only trying to get a shape of some kind going.
