I have some rocks that are very pretty but they have been coated with Amazing Clear Coat Epoxy about a year ago. ( Now this is before someone in our household got their first tumbler and they really did not know better. And yes, this person may or may not be me, depending on your replies). So my question is, can I safely remove this by tumbling them in stage 1 or would I ruin my brand new Lortone QT6 that the Big Brown Truck left on my doorstep this very afternoon? Sure would not want to mess up that new pretty barrel. Any other options to removing it? I also own a Lot O Tumbler but I was thinking that will never work.

I can't say yay or nay...but my guess is going to be it shouldn't be a problem. I'll be curious to see what the more experienced have to say on it. Congrats on the big brown truck delivery!!! And if you ever find "that person" who clear coated them, just forgive them...we all...I mean "they" all...make mistakes.

The grit will remove pretty much anything. Go ahead and run it in the lot-o or the rotary

I was worried it might damage the inside of the barrel in some way or get all gunky.

Grit removes rock, it will not have a problem with a bit of epoxy.

petoskeycheryl epoxy is more abrasion resistant than petoskey stone. That means that grinding to remove the epoxy may give results you don't want like removing the hard candy off the tootsie roll in a tootsie pop. but if you don't care then grind away it is easy. the more controlled option is to soak the petoskey stones in acetone. I picked up a little walmart glass jar with wire latch and a silicone seal ($6) that I used to soak cabs off dops that had been put on with CA. This had a slight leak so over a month or 2, acetone evaporated out. My second attempt was a crock type jar about 4" in diameter and 8" tall with a silicone gasket and wire latch($4). This I picked up at a thrift shop and keeps acetone for months with no leaks. Thrift shop was a better deal. soak stones in acetone and then tumble.

Thanks for your replies everyone. I ran them in the Lortone QT6 and you all were right. No problem at all. It was like that little epoxy episode never happened.
