slow day at work so thought I'd share some recent cabs I've done. il start with a few cabs from local finds out of san jacinto river gravel. first is fossil coral from my first time i seriously hunted the gravel beds of river. I thought this was also coral but was told its palm wood or palm root . daughter said it should be called Giraffe stone or Giraffite. the material is pretty soft, especially the light areas around the orange areas but takes an easy shine. It looks cool backlit. not the best picture but u get the idea... this last local find is pet wood. didnt get the best shine and the two white spots just wouldnt go away so just left as is. now on to purchased material- imperial Jasper- last little piece I had left of it. really love how easy this material is to work with. Pakistani Onyx- really soft stuff but shines up great. Wave Hill agate- takes a quick shine also. Unknown Plume agate- Ocean Jasper - and last one is Dino Bone from a cheap $4 slab - Thanks for looking!

Ooooo doggie! Loving that cheapo bone- I should be so lucky. But, you have some other real nice ones, too., like the coral and the mystery one under it. That coral looks just like the Indonesian stuff. Which is to say, it's real nice.

I was really pleased with how the cheap bone turned out. didnt have very high hope for it when bought it bc of price. The undercutting gives it a cool look at certain angles. wish I could find more of the coral or other one but so far no luck.

You've got some beautiful cabs here! I like them all, but I really like the "giraffe stone/giraffite" because of the bright yellow in it. I looked for some yellow stones to make some leaf cabs but couldn't find any.

Totally agree with your daughter - if there is any reason left on this planet, that's a giraffe's skin for sure!

That fossil corral is amazing! I love the looks of this material! Your daughter is 100% correct with her naming of the Giraffite! It looks great backlit! I have got to start being able to recognize pet wood when I'm out hounding! Nice piece there. With regards to the purchased material, they're all great! To me, the Ocean Jasper stands above the rest by far. Great pattern in that one! Of course, the Dino Bone is right up there too! I love me some Dino!

I haven't found any other fossil coral near as nice as this material but hoping I will in future!

Thank you! I'm still at a loss for how that coral ended up where I found it. I havent come across any other coral that resembles it as closely as the Indonesian coral. was pretty lucky to find it!
