Well, I can't cut cabs, but I'm learning to wire wrap. I managed to do several today. These stones came from my first finished tumbled batch. Albuquerque Petrified Wood Los Lunas Red Jasper Banjo's Picture Jasper I'm liking the square 20 gauge wire better after it's been twisted (hides the tool marks) but I think I need some smaller wire. Next time I have some $$$ - Later, Susan

wow! I think those look fantastic! It looks like it would be hard to do...Isn't it? One question...how much does the wire cost? Is it easy to twist and work? I would like to do something like this, but I'mnot sure if I have the patience, skill or fingers. Steve

Earth Doggie, Here's a photo of the backs of all 3 wraps - ...and the shark tooth that I just finished for my Boss's birthday, wrapped in twisted 14 K Gold. And a faceted quartz cab from Mama's Steve, the wire is expensive, purchased by the ounce, prices fluctaute with the daily market price for gold or silver. These were wrapped in Sterling or 14 K Gold, but you can learn with craft wire. I'm a hard head and insisted on using "grown-up wire" from the gitgo. I wanted to make useable pieces immediateloy. I'm going to order some copper wire, 'cuz I like the way it looks, too, especially with the red jasper. I'm not the most patient person, either, and I do a lot of cursing. Frustrating but rewarding! Thanks for Looking - Susan

Susan those are wonderful. Sterling silver is expensive, but craft wire doens't have the same feeling to it. Do you twist your own square wire? can't seem to twis properly with mine
Behind the red jasper I see a devil,s face inthe rock!

Very nice, you get better each time. I've never tried twisted wire, I can see though were it would be easier if you don't have to worry about marking the wire. Steve, unless you have excess $$ laying around, it's best to practice first with craftwire or something like that. I started with copper wire, then craft wire before going on to the gold-filled and sterling. You also need good tools and one in particular is the plastic jawed pliers. They are an absolute must for straightening wire. Smooth jawed pliers is another one I use a lot. I got mine at www.widgetsupply.com they are pretty reasonable. Cher

Tweet, I see it, too. Now you guys are creeping me out. It looks kinda like a Werewolf X Devil. S PS: Some of my wire is pre-twisted (see the faceted quartz piece). It's not nearly as pretty as the square wire I twisted myself. You'll need a pin vise and flat nose pliers to twist the wire properly.

Thanks for the help! I checked out the link, and would it be a good thing to buy one of those "Thing-a-migjig?" kits.....or os this something totally different. I am definitely not made of money, so I better start out CHEAP! One other thing....definitely "The Devil". No horns, just itty-bitty creepy ears! Steve

Steve, the thing a ma jig if I'm not mistaken is to twist wire around pegs to make jewelry, I don't recommend it to make wire wrapped stones. but if you want to get into making jewelry (with beads & wire) then it's very good. I suggest you go to www.wigjig.com to get info on this type of jig (I got the cheapy version and it's "okay" for starters. But for wire wrapping, it's not the ideal thing (you could do curlycues in your wire with that to then wire wrap, but that would be complicated. Just my 0.5 cents
