As I have said all of the rocks I post are rocks from my backyard. They would be throwaways for most of you, but the variety I have found have sparked an interest in rocks tumbling and drivel work.
This rock would win the award for the ugliest, but I wondered if there was beauty on the inside.
I've attached a video of the rock. I see hints of orange. Would there be orange crystals in there? How do you get to them? Slicing, tumbling, or drivel?
Ive ordered a Lortone 3 lb that should arrive tomorrow.
I appreciate your input. Please excuse the poor video. I have a cast on my right hand so it is awkward.

I have a cast on my right hand so it is awkward. I'm sure others will chime in about the what's and what to do's...but I have to say that NO, they wouldn't be throwaways for most of us. LOL That's the reason most of us are "addicted" to rocks and are members here on RTH...we can't pass up on a cool rock, an ugly rock, a shiny rock, a dull rock...most of the time, any rock! So don't feel like you're alone with this "affliction". Today I went through about 5 five-gallon buckets of prairie agates and other rocks I collected this summer (not even close to all of them)...and wondered at several of them "Why did I pick this one up? I don't know, but it must've been for some reason!" and promptly put them in the transfer milk crate!

chandler I think it's an interesting rock as well. It does look like it has crystals inside of it. They might look sugary like some geodes do. You could use a tile saw to even up the face of the rock where the crystals are exposed. Tumbling it would round the rock but it would also flatten the crystals into a shiny crystal surface. It would depend on how you would like the rock to look. Some of my rocks I just clean up a bit and leave as specimens. Others I use the tile saw to expose something interesting I've seen and then polish that side. I'm not sure about using a Dremel to clean it up. Someone with more dremel experience will have to chime in. Some of my favorite rocks started out as ugly ducklings. After I cleaned or tumbled them or cut them on my tile saw, they became beautiful specimens. That's a good part of the fun in being a rock hound. Finding interesting rocks making them look beautiful and sharing them with other people. I was just watching your video again and it almost looks like there was some kind of pattern on one of the ends of the rock and some grayish purple on the other side. Do you know if you have agates or cherts in your area?

Kyoti,
I have found chert, agates, jasper and lots of quartz. Plume moss agate, petrified wood and Indian flakes. All in my back yard!
My house is the first house built in an area in the country where land has been cleared for 19 houses. Once I found all of these interesting rocks, I started exploring the lots that hadn't sold yet. Then I had this accident that put me in a walker with a cast on my right hand.
All I have done so far is research. Identifying the rocks I have, which is fun. Now I have ordered the Lortone. I am looking for a used wet saw. and a used vibratory tumbler. I have a drimmel.
back to my ugly duckling. Do you have a YouTube example of someone using a tile saw to even up a rock where the crystals are exposed? So far, all I see are people cutting rocks in half.
Thank you for your encouraging comments..

Wow it sounds like you have rockpicking heaven in your yard and neighborhood! All I have are squirrels and lizards in mine. Hopefully you'll heal up soon and be able to get back to hounding. I'll have to search youtube this evening when I get home for some videos. The ones I watched were by Meminer, Agate Dad and Rookie rockhounding. I remember the Rookie doing some really nice work on his rocks with a saw and sander. If you'd like to look at some of their videos, I have the links to their channels in the youtube post here in the forum.
