These are some interesting apache tears from a recent batch. The white and gray may not be apache tears but it is interesting and from the same batch. I got the rough from Tellfamily in a swap. Tks Csroc

Alice, I did an experiment; After the coarse stage I seperated into two batches, One with plastic pellets and one without. I had very little fracturing in either batch but removed those that did, say 3% of the batch. These rocks are all from the batch with pellets, the other batch had many side scratches and have been returned to medium with pellets. csroc

WOW I have tossed all my Obsidian into the corner- I can't get the scratches out of it- no matter what (on the grinder- I have not tumbled any yet!) Those have inspired me to try again- OH and I was getting ready to move my rock cabnit- and inside it is a 5 Lb chunk of Snowflake Obsidian! Guess I'll have to slice into it!

wow, candy apple shine on those! excellent results! how did you find the whole "obsidian experience"?
i've never tried to cut it with a saw, but i have drilled a few tumbled pieces, it's like glass and breaks fairly easily.
what was your recipe, Chass?

wow chass those turned out fantastic. are they all mahogany obsidian? i can count 5 that are. the one dead center is begging to be a pendant and i really like the one with the skinny end. can't wait to see how the ones you sent back turn out.

These were tumbled two weeks 60/90, one week each 120/220, 400, 1000ao, and tin oxide polish. This is the first time I have used tin oxide. These are the most interesting, there was very little mahogany in this batch, you see them all here...the plastic pellets make a huge difference. csroc

Chass...those turned out right nice. I use CE for my polish and then a day in borax. I should be getting a big box of apache tears this month from Arizona......love working with it.
