Hey all,
My wife and I live in Grand Junction Colorado. Native to the GJ but new to rockhounding. I have been photographing the southwest for quite a few years however. My uncle and one cousin are serious rockhounds who frequent the Green River and Yellow Cat areas among others. My wife and I ordered rock hammers last night and are hoping to hit Yellow Cat this weekend. I think we live in MECCA for this sort of thing and can’t wait to learn the techniques of unearthing some beautiful minerals etc.
Anyways, HELLO! 😁

The Yellow Cat Mine area is a productive one. I once sneaked into that area in a 2x van with limited clearance and only spent a couple of hours. I was picking up surface stones so didn't need a hammer. Found some purple-in-color seam agate and a lot of red material but not sure I was adequately read on what to look for and where to concentrate my efforts. Enjoy the trip. You shouldn't have trouble social distancing in there.

Don't forget to puchase safety glasses if you plan on using a rock hammer! (sound like your mother, sorry). You will shoot your eye out!! or something like that.
Fantastic picture (avatar). Reminds me of Bryce Canyon or Cedar Breaks, but it might also be Strawberry Cliffs. I've shot photos in the SW for years, but I am a hack. Maybe some day I will buy a real camera and equipment.
