I think hematite polishes. Will contrast nicely with red.

Wow. That first piece has SO many neat things going on it! I could see some amazing slabs and cabs coming out of that one!

jasoninsd unfortunately my slab saw is in need of a motor, once I get around to replacing it this rock will be at the front of the line. It’s a new location and find for me, this is the second piece I’ve found. Eager to get a cut in to evaluate the overall quality of the stone before I get excited! Oh, just throw caution to the wind and allow yourself to get baselessly excited! I hope the motor replacement isn't too big of an issue...I'm hoping it's just a remove and replace situation... I'll be watching for pics of the cut slabs...

It has to do with how the board handles name VS screen name. If you create username "johnsmith" and don't ever put in a name, typing @ johsmith (without the space) will bring up the relevant info. If he updates display name to "King of France', you would still type @ johnsmith (no space) to get the same results. Now, if the profile name showed up as @ kingoffrance, you'd want to type that to get the proper profile for the King of France (if he had any good sense to be a rockhound). For now, you're going to get the next closest thing! Mr mohs ! (Couldn't resist!) Make sense? (edited) I just updated my "Display name" to my "username". Hopefully going forward, the original Mel from Yuma & Spokane (Mel in Yuma) doesn't come back to 9000 notifications.

That new stuff is gorgeous! It looks like autumn leaves against a background of green. I sure hope it cuts and polishes well!

I think hematite polishes. Will contrast nicely with red. Thanks. Now that I think about it, the metallic areas are actually manganese and not hematite. Thats awesome!! How did you determine this?

@jadedvision - I'm glad you bumped this up to show the new behemoth! My back is aching just looking at it! Did you ever slab that first rock you posted in the thread? If you posted pictures of the slabs, I didn't relate it to this rock. I totally remember that first rock pictured...now that I see the thread again! LOL

Thats awesome!! How did you determine this? I scratched some of the metallic looking stuff across a piece of unglazed porcelain. Scratch test, I understand. So you got a black scratch?

Scratch test, I understand. So you got a black scratch? The piece I scratched left a dark grey streak. Magnetite and hematite both have a dark grey streak. Considering that jasper is full of other iron based colors and iron is the most common jasper colorant, I am still curious how manganese got the nod?

I hope I can find some Jasper as nice as those. Finding anything worthwhile would be a positive.
