Ahhh just to cut rock- what a feeling- this is some of Arkies Pet wood- 4 inches thick- just and hour to cut it into a more managable chunk- but oh the color inside- (the pic may be blurry cause I was running the grinder when I took it) ANd then some Flint and crazy laze and the brown center small pieces are the first cuts from a small chunk of matrix opal (preciuos) not sure if I'll cut anymore as the flash appears to only be on the outer crust

KD BY HAND- an hour cutting time- And I still had to smack it with the hammer to get it to break- I cut all the way through (that leaves a 2 inch deep grove) then I "roll" it up on the blade and cut through tha (2 side with a 2 inch deep grove) then repeat on side 3 and 4- Well that is all the cutting that the saw will do so then i just tap an edge with the hammer and It's done- Now I can slab the smaller chunk (I cut it 2 inches high!) Should make some interesrting grain patterns! Cher- hmmmm I would send you the saw to borrow- but ummmm well see it's in the basement- and ummm well I would have to unplug it and ummmm welll like then I would have to carry it upstairs and pack it and ship it and if something happened to you while using it I would feel real bad and I could not live with that- sorry- Hey this is just a home depot tile saw- I paid $77 for it (they are now $88 on the website) all I did was add some splash shields to it- Oh and as for my picture ability- well I'm hopeless there- It will never get better- some turn out ok and some are well they suck .

So Stefan, since you won't send that saw to me, tell me more about it. Need to see some pics of these "splash shields" you made too. I might have to get me one after seeing how much stuff you're turning out. Don't know if I'll ever get enough saved to get the Lortone FS 8-C that I really want. Where did you get the blade for it? Oh yeah, what size is it?

Cher- It is a Home Depot TR550 3/4 hp 7 inch blade- that came with it- I bit thicker than I like but very durable (you ain;t gonna bend this sucker!) I'll take some pix of the sheilds Just some underlayment and plexi- but very functional! If you are careful with it you can get some decent cuts- I hand feed everything as I have not yet made a suitable clamp system- But with a little practice hand feeding becomes easy! Here is the pic of the saw before the modification I'll get some pix tonight and give a detailed shield manufacturing tutorial!

Nice setup Stefen, It is hard to cut big pieces but it seems like you have no problem at all...That PetWood is quite fetching! I would stick with thick blades as much as possible(unless you are working with soft rocks (an oxymoron, but you know what I mean). If you try to cut agate, jasper, pet wood with a thin blade, you have to be extremely careful not to put too much pressure on the blade or it will be ruined in an instance. Thick blades seem to last longer too. csroc

Yea and they are much cheaper (I think around 20 to 30 bucks) But this is the original and I have about 10 hours on it and no sign of wear yet! BTW that is my daughters hand in the pic (she loves showing off my toys!)
