I haven't seen a thread about "stupid things I did while doing my rock thing"...... though I did find the one about the cornmeal..... So I thought I would share what I did this morning. I checked and recharged my bit Thumler; out on the patio, took out the huge load of rocks, cleaned them, had the coarse grit slurry in my bucket.... when I finally finished washing everything I carried it into the house to recharge. Carefully putting all of the good rocks back in, added some extras to take up the space, put in fresh grit, then added the bottom of the slurry that was left (very messy stuff but good and thick). Filled with water. I then cut a piece of thick tractor inner tube, like someone suggested to protect the lid, it fit perfectly. Reached for the 6 wingnuts and washers~~~~~~~ then almost cried..... I remembered when I carried the heavy barrel into the house I had dropped the nuts and washers in the bottom of the barrel to carry,,,, YES they were still in the bottom ! I had to go back outside, DUMP everything out and start over !!!!! I almost just left them in and found some new nuts and washers, but decided that it might just ruin all the rock and the barrel too ! NOW that I have put into writing my "dumb goof", anyone else have something they want to confess to doing ?? ;D

i think there was a "dumb and dumber things i've done" post a while back....but welcome to the "how stupid am i" Club, Donna...we've all been there and done at least something that no-brained.
sorry to hear of all your wasted grit.

Donna, don't feel too bad I did the same thing almost. On my second load of rocks ever I washed my barrel and parts up nice and clean, put the o ring that holds the lid on in the bottom of the barrel to carry. Then left the o ring in the barrel and filled it up with rocks, grit etc.. I realized what I did when I went to seal the lid.

Stuff happens. I couldn't find my nut one time and had to dump my rocks out to find it, luckily I hadn't add the grit or water yet. Tami

Mark can move it (or Sands could) .... only admin/mods can do that kind of stuff. Good for you on saving the grit, what a bummer to have that happen. Easy enough done though, good thing you caught it and didn't just throw another nut on there.

There isn't enough space on this server for all the stupid things I've done, and the older I get the worst it gets! The last really good one was when I was taking the tile blade off my miter saw that was before I got my lortone and why I got my lortone!I had the allen wrench in the screw on the saw and then pressed the on switch! Four stiches to close up the hole in my hand from the allen wrench. That's stupid! Worked with power tools all my life and never got hurt till that.

Gee I feel so much better now..... ;D maybe I'm not the "most challenged" on this list after all !! BTW, I have my FIRST batch in a Borax wash now, going to put into the last polish before I go to bed tonight,,,,,, these are plain and simple pasture rocks and some petrified wood..... BUT they are really looking nice; well nice to me because it's the first one's I have ever done..... I will take pictures and post when they are out of polish; As My Right Of Passage on the List !
