I won an auction that Paul @hookedonrocks was running. He was kind enough to swap out a few things I didn't care for and then HE ADDED TO THE LOT! I ended up with about 50 slabs of really nice stuff- not including the many smaller slabbettes of MHPJ. I am more than happy with my win. I have enough very nice MHPJ to last a lifetime. I got a nice variety, including some Oolite I have never seen before which is really trippy. (the right hand basket at about 10:00.) And, he even threw in a few small cutters. Just the right size for my baby saws. I was really worried abt this lot of fragile slabs being shipped almost 3000 miles across the country. But, hot damn, there was only one minor break in 2 LFRBs!!!! How cool is that??? He did an impressive job packing.
I would do a deal with Paul again in a heartbeat! Thank you, Paul!

Tela, I'm stoked you're happy with the win! I knew you were pushing hard to be the victor (victorette maybe) in that auction. That was a fun one to watch from the sidelines as there were so many beautiful slabs on the auction block! I can't wait to see some of the stuff you come up with, using this material!

Yeah, I kinda blew it with the time difference, but I'm still very happy. It breaks down to about 20 a slab. Considering most are worth more and that I paid shipping for one lot instead of a bunch of smaller lots, I still made out. Being on the East Coast has distinct disadvantages when you are a rockjunquie. I am usually at the mercy of eBay. Shipping costs get to me. And, stiff competition drives the prices. Some of that MHPJ would fetch a pretty penny on eBay. So, yeah, I'm happy.

I'm so glad you got them safe and sound and you are pleased! That oolite is very cool. Only one minor casualty is amazing nowadays with the PO being what it is now.
My sister sent me a box from Chicago on December 4 and I finally got it yesterday after it sat at the PO in Elk Grove Village for 4 days before going anywhere else, and then they sent it to Boston! It finally got to Phoenix on Saturday. Idjits.
I'm looking for some very beautiful cab pictures to be posted from you, Ms. rockjunquie!

I'm looking for some very beautiful cab pictures to be posted from you, Ms. rockjunquie ! I've seen some strange journeys myself.
One of the boxes came Sat and the other on Mon. On Sat, I was pretty scared about what might have happened to the other.
The boxes were even in great shape! The PO delivered.

I just got back in the house. I was looking through my slabs and wondering what I should start marking out. IT IS SO HARD TO DECIDE!!! I have the new ones and some older ones that are dying to get cut, too. Decisions, decisions- whatever will I do?? (I have some psilomelane that NEEDS to be cut really bad!)

One of the biggest challenges in lapidary is finding good material. It was a lot easier years ago. Generally, the material on auction is not high quality and over priced. I have spent a lot of time finding sources for good affordable material.
There is no such thing as a lifetime supply MHPJ. Ask Paul.

Ebay used to have a good amount of really nice material at reasonable prices. I don't know what happened, but that's not the case anymore. I had a whole network of sellers that have just withered away. Poof.

I recently saw palm-sized rough pieces for over $500, and they looked too fractured to get a single decent cab. Etsy is getting bad too. I saw someone selling Fordite for $10k. It looked like MAYBE a copy of pounds, but still... Hard to even be sure how much there really was with all the “pictures are for illustrative purposes only,” disclaimers. Congrats on your win. I’m only a little jealous.

Congrats on your win and I can't wait to see post of some of the cabs you are making with those gorgeous slabs!
