I live in the southeast part Wisconsin by lake Michigan. I hear about Lake Michigan geodes. What do they look from the outside if not cracked open? Does a small pocket of crystals on the outside of a rock indicate a geode when cut open?

These are the only geodes I have found from roughly the same location as you(SE,lake Michigan). Curious what you heard about geodes from the area? lake Michigan geode by fuss_, on Flickr geode8 by fuss_, on Flickr lmc89b by fuss_, on Flickr

I never found any. I've only found couple rocks that have a small pocket of crystals on the outside. Do I crack it open? I don't have a means of cutting it. The ones u have pictured, is that how u found them or did u cut them? You found them on a beach? I am only asking because I've seen a video where they dig them out on land. Iowa i think.

There are no deposits of geodes like the Keokuk geodes from Iowa in this area that I am aware of, more out on the western side of the state I assume if there were. The ones I posted were found as you see them along the shoreline. But if you find limestone/dolostone pebbles or cobbles that have crystallization seen in cracks or vugs, I would definitely crack them open, you can find some nice well formed crystals of calcite, pyrite, marcasite, fluorite, quartz, dolomite, sphalerite to name etc. Also keep an eye out for those red porphyritic Rhyolite cobbles that have visible vugs, some rare and beautiful minerals in them such as these zoned fluorite crystals in my sample pictured. fluorite crystals2 by fuss_, on Flickr
