Here are some cabs I made Christmas Eve (late night) and Christmas day (up at 4am) before going to the in-laws for midday meal. Teepee Canyon Agate - Thank you going out to miket for the chunk. A couple of the cabs don't have any real banding in them, but I didn't want to waste what was left of the material. Crazy Lace Agate - These were from tumble rough which didn't make the cut for the next stage. So, I sliced up a couple pieces and came up with these cabs. The smallest of them is the smallest cab I've done. Cold Mountain Thunderegg Jasper - Two different looks to this material. The green one has a fracture that thankfully didn't blow up. This is the first one I beveled the edge (just wanted to experiment) rather than having a sharp girdle line. I'm totally in love with the multi-colored one! Petrified wood from South Dakota - This is the lowest dome I've tried to cab. I cut some slabs with the grain and some across the grain. This one is with the grain. Crinoidal Limestone China (Marbelized) - This piece had more of a teardrop shape, but a small piece of the crinoid broke off when I was reworking the piece, so I had to round off the end and reshape and rework the dome. Kambaba Jasper - I love the looks of this material. It's a lot softer than I thought it would be. None of these are perfect... although I fell the multi-colored Cold Mountain is darn close! LOL Thanks for taking a gander... Teepee Canyon Agate

personally I like the teepee canyon the best I really like the teepees too! It's the first time I've got to work them. I really enjoy working these. I'm going to have to go out and mine some of these when the weather gets a little better. Hopefully sooner rather than later. Looks like a pink alligator in this one.. Edit - and I'm not drinking. LOL - I see it too! I think we only need to worry if you're seeing "pink elephants"! Looks like a pink alligator in this one.. I was thinking the same thing. The crinoids really do produce some amazingly weird shapes. I was cutting Turritella quite a bit today...not as many weird shaped fossils in that stuff. Looks like a pink alligator in this one.. And a duck top right. 😀 LOL - I see the duck too!

I can't get good pictures right now to save my life! LOL That Cold Mountain has everything to me. Good colors, good patterns, and I don't think any flaws on that one...and yes, the rest of them are filled with flaws. For one thing, I'm really having a hard time seeing the scratches before the polish stage. I thought I'd figured out how to see them, but apparently not. And another thing, the polish on most of these (except the CM) leaves a lot to be desired...

Nice bunch, Jason! You're cranking them out now... Better start wrapping.

Nice bunch, Jason! You're cranking them out now... Better start wrapping. 😁 I knew I was doing a bunch of them, but didn't realize it was fourteen in two days (not even two really). However, once they were "completed" I was only satisfied with the results of a couple of them. So, I'm not good enough yet to crank them at out that pace. I've got to slow down and be a lot more careful. As far as the wrapping, I think the idea I planted in my wife's ear escaped out the other one...so, I don't think I can convince her to do it! LOL

Busy, busy, busy! You've done a man's job. (BladeRunner reference, there.) I like so many of them! The alligator is super cool, but so are the teepees and so many others.
You'll figure out the scratches thing. I still catch them sometimes, too. I have new wheels except for the 1200. It wasn't catching all the 600 scratches. Really hard to see those! I'll have to go back on a few and get another new wheel.

jasoninsd color the top of your cab with a sharpie (use a silver sharpie for dark stones) before you go on to the next step. The sharpie will color in the scratches. Sand until you get rid of all the sharpie marks. Rinse and repeat for all the grits.

Thanks Tela! I like Robin's suggestion below... jasoninsd color the top of your cab with a sharpie (use a silver sharpie for dark stones) before you go on to the next step. I did mark one with a Sharpie, but only "near" the area I saw the scratch. I like the idea of coloring the entire surface...

For one thing, I'm really having a hard time seeing the scratches before the polish stage. I thought I'd figured out how to see them, but apparently not. Ha Ha. Welcome to the club. To see the scratches, dry cab with a rag, stand in the sunshine, and slowly turn it every which way. A friend does that when buying slabs at shows or sales because he can see the scratches better. If wet, you see the colors, but not the scratches.

You want it inside the scratch, otherwise it will grind off before the scratch is gone (and I need to re-emphasize using the metallic Sharpies, not the regular ones — btw red and purple soak even deeper into the stone than black : forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/thread/85501/red-sharpie-removed). I need to remember just to do this with every cab, not just the ones where I missed the scratch. I usually try it Pat ’s way, but I miss a lot. It worked better 10 years ago. I wonder what changed....
