Nice cabs! Your second to last is my favorite — it looks like it's on fire.

That is some amazing pet wood you've shown us. Is it my imagination, or is it a bit less cracky than the typical AZ rainbow wood?

Hummingbirdstones2, I have cut only a few pieces of AZ wood and it all contained a lot of fractures and was not cuttable. The Engle material I have been working is thought to be wash from the Caballo Mountains in NM. It does have fractures but not like the few pieces of rainbow wood that I cut. I do have one AZ round that looks solid and was dug on the ranch next to the park. This is a display piece in the yard and has not been cut.

Looked that area up online, and there does appear to be a large wash running south from Engle toward "Spaceport America".
Engle is apparently where the Armandaris Ranch, owned by Ted Turner (along with everything else for miles around) is located. The Aleman Ranch (now resold/renamed) is said to be at the southern end of the area. One article about Engle says the road south from Engle is unpaved and should only be driven with 4WD vehicles.
Sounds like a prime hounding area - if large parts of it aren't posted. I'm curious, and Robin even said maybe we should go there someday.
The cabs you've posted are so nice I'd be tempted to go out there and wander around... .

Beautiful! The slender one (last photo) has such a nice shape! and the colors and texture is beautiful and intresting on all of them.
Looking at that free-form piece, it seems to be tumbled. Do you make the cabs the same way?

Adrian, all cabs are shaped on a flat lap 60 grit and finished in a UV-18 vibe tumbler in a 10-12 day cycle. Even the pieces that are entered in the monthly cab contest are made this way.
