I bought a nice piece of Laguna Lace Agate off eBay. It's 1.75# and too large for my small hobby rock saw at this stage. I tried to break it up with a chisel and pick and 5# hammer with no luck. My question: How the heck do I break this stuff into tumbling-size pieces?

You don't know anyone with a larger saw? Henry

Cut into it with that small saw will help Yeah, one or more cuts where you want them and then put a screwdriver or chisel in the cut and give it a nice tap with a small hammer.

Get some good safety glasses, wrap it in an old dish towel, put it on a hard/semi-hard surface and hit it with a 2 or 3 lb sledge. Hit the matrix end first. There are probably better ways, but that is the only way I have to reduce larger pieces. Watch out for shrapnel.

Also, it will crack your driveway/garage floor so put a board under it before you strike.
