Hi there,
I'd like to create rings completely out of stone. I would prefer an organic, asymmetric, smooth finish to my rings, but I don't care for a super high polish.
Right now my idea is to cut out the shapes then rough shape them on my flat lap and diamond burs to round out the inside. I want to use a tumbler to shape and get a even polish on them. I am wanting to purchase a tumbler + grit for this project and would love some guidance.
Would a Lot o or rotary work best for this? It appeals to me that the Lot o take less time and materials, but I'm not sure that It will smooth out the edges as much as id like. Then again I can always shape them with the diamond burs. Also if I want an even, but not too glossy of a finish what grit should I go up to?
Anyway, any thoughts or advice would be much appreciated!
Thank you!

I’ve made all-stone one piece rings. Didn’t use a tumbler. Used core drills and Genie. Jim Brown made a video of his setup. rockjunquie. What’s Jim’s RTH name?

Thanks, Tela. I’ve sent him a message. Re polishing the inside, probably with cones. I’ll look through my stuff.

Seeing how it's a holiday, give people some time to find your post. Jim gave me one of his gorgeous stone rings some years back (2012? 2013?), so I know of what you speak. Thought I'd take a look for the tutorial I am sure he did, but so far, no luck. I am hindered by the fact that he deleted his original account, "wampidy," so I can't search using that name. His next account is wyrock, screen name "wampidytoo," which someone already mentioned.
I'll keep looking...

Found this thread from 2014. Not a tutorial, per se (hence, why it was not found with other tut's), but described how he made rings out of "ply-rocks," lol. Slabs of rock glued together. Trying to be humble about this ring
Will keep looking...
