That original piece of petrified wood you found is fantastic! There are some great colors in it.
I think I mentioned it before, but I'll say it again. You really have a great eye for the shape. They all have such a pleasing forms!

That original piece of petrified wood you found is fantastic! There are some great colors in it. I think I mentioned it before, but I'll say it again. You really have a great eye for the shape. They all have such a pleasing forms! Thanks Brian! My wife gave me that "Really?!?!" look when I told her I'd slabbed this one...oops! Most of the petrified wood I find I won't cut into slabs. I love the looks of pet wood when it actually looks like wood and prefer to leave it in it's natural state. Thanks for the comment on the shapes/forms. I purchased several templates, but I don't like the looks of some of the shapes, so I'll never likely use that half of the template! LOL

I agree with you on the ones that still look like wood. I remember the first time I saw petrified wood when I was probably 8 or so. My mind was blown. I thought it was the coolest thing ever and that hasn’t changed. Unfortunately, I’ve never been to a place where I could collect it myself. Nothing more frustrating than walking through a national park and being surrounded by pet wood that you can’t take with you!

While petrified wood is definitely ONE of my favorites, I know I couldn't place it above Fairburns...or not even dino poo for that matter. I'm still amazed at my own fascination with Randy's thread! The coprolite thread is one of the most viewed threads on the forum, so I'm not the only one who feels like crap is fascinating! LOL It was a real eye opener cabbing this petrified wood. It really turned out to be different than what I was expecting. A lot more pitting and fractures involved - at least with this piece, than what I was thinking there would be...

Now you’re just rubbing it in... Not only do you find pet wood, but you also find Fairburns in your neck of the woods, too! At least I get to live vicariously through the pictures here. And Randy has already hooked me up with a box of pet wood to admire.
Totally agree that Randy's crap thread is fascinating. I have had more fun learning about dino poop than I care to admit.
