Honestly I have never visited this forum before. I think it is mostly because I have almost never found a mineral specimen of my own. So I have nothing to share.
I happened upon a patch of crystals once in the field but left it perched up on a nice big rock for someone else to have.
Last year at this time I was in Thailand for a while and happened by chance across a gemstone and jewelry factory in Bangkok which had an expansive and impressive collection of minerals out front. I spent an hour or more looking around and taking pictures.
I am not sure how these pictures will translate to Image hosting or not being seen in person. I tried to get the best shots I could. Also trying my best here to describe them too, as I took notes.
You know that I used to attend Gem and Mineral shows with my dad when I was a teenager. But I have never seen stuff like this.
I hope that maybe a couple of these might be cool to see for someone else, even if not seen first hand.
1 - Various Minerals
2 - Various Minerals
3 - Quartz over Calcite in Quartz Geode - Uruguay - Probably about a foot and a half tall.
4 - Phantom Calcite on Amethyst - Brazil
5 - Quartz over Grey Jasper and Calcite - Uruguay - Maybe a foot and a half tall
6 - Various Minerals - Each about 6" to a foot tall
7 - Various Pyrite Minerals - I like the big cubes best
8 - Clear Octahedral Fluorite with Yellow Quartz - China
9 - Dodecahedral Fluorite - China
10 - Fluorite with Quartz - China
11 - Yellow Fluorite - Namibia
12 - Fluorite with Quartz - China
13 - Green Apophylite - India
14 - Single Amethyst Crystal - Uruguay - Pretty massive
15 - Various Minerals
16 - Hubnerite, Fluorite and Quartz - Peru
17 - Apophylite and something else - India
18 - Calcite on Amethyst - Brazil
19 - Apophylite, Stilbite and Heulandite - India - This is about 3 feet tall
20 - Spinel and Pargasite in Marble - Thailand - This is over 6 feet tall, but I guess they wanted to keep all the crystals together in one blob
21 - Calcite on Pyrite - Peru - About 2-3 feet tall
22 - Apophylite and others - India - About 4 feet tall. I forgot to write down the names of the little ones.
23 - Apophylite and Stilbite - India - I think Apophylite is common in India
24 - Vanadinite - Morocco
25 - Sulphur - Bolivia
26 - Calcite on Amethyst - Brazil
27 - Smaller Minerals
28 - Other smaller stones - This was an area where you could buy the materials if you wanted to. I didn't take pictures of it all though.
29 - Dodecahedral Pyrite - Peru
30 - Amethyst with Red Jasper border - Uruguay (1 of 2) - Probably between 4 and 5 feet tall.
31 - Another shot. I think it would be nice to find something like this myself.
32 - On this day (or maybe all days), the factory was open. There were dozens of craftsman all working away at their specialties.
I think that it would be pretty cool to have a job working on jewelry, gems and minerals.
Well, that is about it. These pictures were only taken on 'medium' size, so I think that it will not be too impossible to see all of the pictures. If it is too picture heavy than I could certainly resize them and repost them.
Other than the size descriptions I am afraid that I would not be able to tell anything about the specimens in these photos. I just don't know enough.
Thanks for stopping by!
