So most of you old timers know that I've been able to find some pretty cool rocks locally here in Utah. Since we're fairly new at this hobby, I've not accumulated all the necessary tools to take this sucker to the next level. I've really found some great stuff, but have just shelved them until I could get my hands on a saw. Well tonite, my friend who does tiling for a living, was working at my next door neighbors house. I bumped on over to chat w/ him and to see how things were coming w/ his job. Well I of course had to ask him about his saw. He said it had a diamond tipped blade and I asked him if he thought it could handle a some nice big chunks of rock. He said "no problem, go get 'em" Well, I couldn't get to my stash fast enough. When he ran the first hunk, I sat there as axious as a kid in a candy store waiting to see what was inside. I was floored to see how gorgeous the first rock was and was happy that I hadn't beat it w/ a hammer. Here are some picts of my best stuff. I put some of my old picts of these in the "rough" for comparison. I still lack a flat lap (Ok, I lack just about everything.....all I have is a small little vibe) so these are not polished. These pictures are taken wet. Sorry for not putting in scale. These rocks are agates, jaspers, and chalcedonys. Pict 1: original in the center right Pict 2: cut in half Pict 3:A great little pink/red agate: Pict 4: Pinky Cut in half Pict 5: Another cool one Pict 6:Same one "clam shelled" This maybe too big to keep going, so I'll post another thread.........

OMG Gater those are gorgeous. Bet you're just itching to get a saw now. You know, those tile saws aren't very expensive, next time I can get to a home depot I'm thinking of getting one rather than wait until I have enough $$ to get a Lortone.

check out pawn shops, the big saws show up often with good blade left much cheaper. got my first tile saw there, used it to break slabs and thinner than 1.75 inch stuff , cut solid crystal quartz w no problem .
was a plastic frame and ran 25 bucks, great start!!..

Well, tonite while mowing the lawn, Mr. Saw man drives by and we started chit chatting. I asked him when he was gonna have his saw up again and He said it's up right now about 5 houses down the street. He smiled and asked how many rocks I had to cut and laughed.
Well the kids and I packed up a box, threw the camera over the shoulder, and headed down the street. I was disappointed when I got there as he had not set up the saw and told me to come back Saturday.
I will post picts of the latest batch and have picts of the saw.
Gaetz
