Can someone id this rock. From my father's vacation trips box. Most likely from the state of Wisconsin. He did go to South Dakota once

kozman Based on pic, and assuming WI, I would guess Red Jasper with Hematite. If you have a saw and slice it it may give a better ID. It sould take a good polish tumbled or cabbed.

We have a lot of Red Jasper very similar to that here in western South Dakota. Sometimes I'll find fortifications on the exterior making it seem like a Fairburn Signer (not a Fairburn Agate).

I only have a dremel. Might try to dremel it as deep as i can around the rock the hammer a chisel to it.

This is best i could break it open. Break is 3" wide 2" tall.
