I'm rebuilding an original Frantom 18" saw. This example was retrofitted to be hydraulic and I can't wait to make it work. Lol Anyways, does anyone know the original color frantoms were painted? catmandewe AzRockGeek Rockoonz quartz Tommy Feel free to tag others that may know in the event I missed them. Thank you!!!

sphereguy is the FranTom historian, but he doesn't visit often. I'll check if I have a pic of my former 24 inch I can post. beefjello showed me an arbor last Saturday, can't remember if it was original paint.

Kinda faded old and dirty, but the inside pics are worse.

NRG Scott thanks for thinking of me but on this topic (and many others I'm sure) I'm completely useless. Sounds like a fun project though!

NRG, did some comparison hunting this A.M. A Plasti-Kote fizzle can color #1090 Medium Blue Metallic, an Eagle brand hand pump oiler about pint capacity, and the blue color used on the interior trim of both the '68 Ford Falcons I had [this off a paint card] are a very close match to the long covered and protected area on the saw Mike gave me a couple years ago. Happy hunting.

You guys are all stars.
That's the color I was afraid of. Yuk!
The saw isn't all original anyways. I'm thinking of going more flashy.
Maybe a candy apple red? Or perhaps statutory grape? I'm leaning to grape

I thought purple was your color, I like purple, or grape, which is close.

How the heck to I get this apart and off the tub? I've removed all the bolts. This is my first roadblock! Can find fasteners or seem to pop it free. Is it simply stuck on with decades of goo? sphereguyRockoonzquartzAzRockGeekcatmandewebeefjelloEdit: Maybe the shaft is holding it there. If so, it's press fit. Which way would I pull? Help!

Sand the paint off the arbor with some Emory cloth, lubricate, loosen the set screw on pulley and remove pulley. The flanges bearing should have some set screws as well or a cap that twist on, same process.

Yep, like they said, pulley first. Then outer flange bearing. With that off, arbor assembly goes inward and onto your bench for disassembly, which should be obvious by then. PB Blaster is your friend, WD okay but inferior. If there are shims between the arbor and the saw body note their location, they were there for blade alignment.

I got the inside deal off.
The pulley is an effing bear. Can't use a gear puller because the shaft is covered and the cover won't come off. I'm carefully and slowly drifting the pulley off. Maybe 1/4" left to go. Need to find a spacer of the right dimension to pry against. Ughhh
Googling PB blaster
Thanks Lee!!

If there are shims between the arbor and the saw body note their location, they were there for blade alignment. Interestingly the only shims are UNDER the arbor assembly and not against the tub. He used washers. Lol

RockoonzI suspect trimming in the blade/vice combo is going to be the hardest part of the rebuild. It’s not a Bridgeport so perhaps it wil go easy. Time will tell.

If you are going to take alot of things apart I suggest that you invest in some Aero-Kroil, hands down the best I have ever used for breaking things loose.
Looks like a fun project!
