I haven't been wrapping much wire lately. I've been taking a break, and so these are from last year some time.
I have found that if I am not continuously cranking out wire wraps that if I take a month or two off and then come back that I am rusty and I can't imagine doing anything complicated or difficult. I hope that's not the case when I start up again. But it probably will be, again.
These were done when I was producing a couple a day though, so they are cleaner I think.
P201 - Gunlock Deep Red Oval - Some more of the Gunlock Agate. It is hard to take a picture of this material. The Agate is so shiny that it picks up and reflects that lights and corners of the light box that I use for the picture. It almost looks like wavy cracks or imperfections. And I can't actually get the camera to focus on the stone and that it has red, black, white, and clear material in it.
P202 - Columbia Dioptase Heart - I am starting to come up with different freeform shapes for my cabs. Getting away from templates all together. I would say that at this point last year I had not used a dop stick or template in over nine months.
P203 - Big Sur Green Chert - Here is another one that is just being all reflecty. I picked up the rock on the California coast in an area around Hearst Castle. The area is known for green Nephrite, but this is Jasper / Chert. Pretty green though. But reflecty. It actually has streaks of white running through it. But you can't tell the difference between them and the reflections here.
P204 - Colorado River Agate Tear - To be honest I am not entirely positive that I picked this up on the banks of the Colorado. I can find Agate like this there though. But have you ever looked at a cab and forgotten where you picked it up at? This happens to me once in a while for sure. Maybe I should label them or something. Hmm.
P205 - Variscite Copper Swirl - Some of the darkest green material that I got for Variscite is mixed in with a bunch of harder matrix. I've posted a bunch in the past, but this is stabilized, and still has chunks of rock missing off the face. I tried to cover it up with wire. At any rate this is a less than perfect rock, but I am a less than perfect wrapper. So it is a match. I still like this stuff with the matrix attached.
P206 - Long Dioptase Streak - I am starting to run out of Dioptase cabs that I made in March of 2020. I might have made over 50 or so, but I am running out of more interesting pieces. Plus this was the time when I freeformed after sniffing glue (J/K) So there is no geometric symmetry to it at all. But I like the dark green. It reminds me of Google Maps, looking down at a dark green river running through white plains or something.
P207 - Annivarsary Silver Charm - I like this material. It may look like there are inclusions but it is clear all the way. It just reflects a lot of the lights and stuff. Some day I will figure out how to take a picture. Have you ever used glue? Not for huffing, but for actually adhering a cab to the stone. I have, here. This slippery guy it wrapped tightly, but no to tight to actually convince me that it won't come out. So I dropped a dab of glue on the back at the very top. Cheating, but effective.
P208 - Green Dioptase With Black - Ok, promise, no glue in this one. I like this material though. I've only got a few pieces of it. And I was told finally that the black is Limonite. It is a pretty cheerful cab and I think it looks good with green. I can't explain the shape, other than I used to let the "rock talk to me, and tell me what it wants to be". I need to return to geometrically pleasing shapes again I think.
Well, that's about it for now. I need to spend the day making cabs now. It's been a few weeks since I stood in front of the cabbing machine so this will be lots of fun. Plus I got a brand new load of snappy mediocre type material to practice on. So this will be a fun day!
Thanks for stopping by!
