I got this stuff for $1.50 a pound
They call it spotted jasper. I see no references on RTH or the internet in general to spotted jasper. Does anyone know this material by a different name? I took a few slabs from a 10 pound chunk and it seems to be very solid material. I like the pattern. It could get old quick, but interesting for now.

That pattern would make a nice jigsaw puzzle for people you don’t like. : )

That pattern would make a nice jigsaw puzzle for people you don’t like. : ) Now you've got me thinking about how I could cut stone puzzle pieces. Impossible, I think, since even the most narrow kerf blade necessarily breaks the continuity between pieces. But if it's for people I don't like, all the better, right?

I'm getting really bad about all this! After you posted this last night, I immediately went to the link and put this in my cart...kept shopping around and came up with some Leopardskin Jasper to throw in the cart as well. Then decided to sit on it until today. I got to thinking, I'm not sure I can imagine working 10 pounds worth of this material. On the other hand, there wouldn't be a lot of wasted material looking for the right "pattern" to mark preforms. Shapes can be marked out with just enough room for the blade to pass in-between as there's no rhyme or reason to the patterning in the stone. I may still pull the trigger on it. The price is great...and I can't stop staring at the "puzzle-like" pattern! Thanks for posting the link to this stuff...I mean thanks A LOT dangit! LOL

LOL I can't imagine using 10 pounds of it either, but it is interesting enough to want a few slabs. We could trade some slabs. I could send you a few slabs of this and a few other interesting slabs, and you could send me a few in return whenever you get a chance. Of you could send me a few small local finds to tumble, something common around your parts but not common around here. If you're interested, just tell me how thick you like slabs.

Could be a fun project with a Gryphon band saw cutting simple puzzles from thin agate slices . . . like a Christmas tree ornament in the middle with the other pieces fit around it.

I think I might just take you up on that! We're supposed to be getting some warmer temps toward the end of the week and I plan on hounding one day and slab cutting another couple days. I bet I've got some stuff you'd be interested in. I'll shoot you a message later and we can toss out some suggestions.

Very cool, looks like a halfway mix of puddingstone which would contain smoothly rounded pebbles and brecciated jasper where the broken sections would be more angular and sharp edged. Great color mix too.
