Hi guys, I found this piece of jasper in the San Francisco Bay Area recently. It has spots all over, and I'm wondering if one would classify this as a poppy jasper, or something else? Most pictures of poppy jaspers I see seem to show poppies with a distinct "center" colored differently than the outer "ring", whereas the spots here have no such centers. Thanks in advance!

it certainly looks like it. I’ve seems some in the Bay Area that are similar. Sometimes, too, the ring will show up after polishing. Yours looks pretty beat-up, but might still take a polish, although the fractures might be problematic. Since it’s from California and has the colors, I would likely call it a poppy jasper, as the stone was originally named for its resemblance to our state flower, and was originally limited to Morgan Hill material before being expanded.
Where on the Bay Area did you find it?

Thanks Stephan for clarifying terminology for me. I found it in the South Bay. I'll cut it and give it a polish to see what comes out.
