This weekend I knocked out a few. All were either scrap-salvage or pre-forms that have been on the waiting list for years (most, anywhere from 5-10 years, yikes!). So far, I've only had a chance to photograph and post two: Bloodstone: DSC_2511_Bloodstone free-form by Stephan T., on Flickr Wow! I had forgotten how hard good-quality bloodstone is. It took forever to get some of the scratches out, but the result is worth it. I've had the pre-form for this cab sitting around forever. Five or six years, at least. Probably more like 10. Bloodstone is sometimes listed as the alternate birthstone for Aries (blood... Ares... God of war... get it?), and sometimes as the alternate for just March, I'll take the former definition, otherwise, for April, it's diamond -- which I can't stand (other than as an abrasive for polishing other rocks). If you look closely at the red jasper spots, most have an orbicular structure. Many even have the two-toned red that many poppy jaspers have). Many of the white spots are orbs as well. LOL! I guess those would be the white blood cells, and the diffuse yellow would be the serum. Some MHPJ: DSC_2518_Morgan Hill poppy jasper freeform by Stephan T., on Flickr Made from a boring-looking heel cut. A little surprising how well it turned out. Other than a little one near the tip, it's remarkably free of unhealed fractures. And my favorite... A nice piece of Stone canyon jasper: DSC_2494_Stone Canyon jasper by Stephan T., on Flickr Flame-shaped (or eyeball, or, maybe, with the psychedelic-patterns, paisley-shaped), A nice, solid piece. I marked and made the pre-form a decade ago. Not sure why I never finished it, since it's some of my favorite material, and this is fully healed, uniformly hard and gorgeously patterned.

I have some old preforms, too.
I LOVE that Stone Canyon. That's what it should look like.

I LOVE that Stone Canyon. That's what it should look like. Thanks, Tela. I know, right? I have 1 slab left 64mmx73mm (or 2.5" x 2.75"). It's 1cm thick! If I ever get a Gryphette, and evolve to no longer need sleep, I learn to groove wrap, no problem. That "old-stock" Stone Canyon is gorgeous.
Thanks, Robin. And, LOL! I wondered who'd be the first with that pun.

Super nice weekend's worth of work! I'm definitely inclined to be drooling over that Stone Canyon. I'll echo what Tela said about "that's what it's supposed to look like"! Love both the shape and the pattern on that one! I'm going to be posting a thread with some Stone Canyon cabs I made the other night. I'm hoping to get some input from you on them...

I went through a period where I loved doing the flames (right after I discovered swoopiness). I'm kind of circling back to them now. With the glue tab bail, I van pretty much hang it vertically, but with a wrap, that could totally be made to look like a psychedelic eyeball. I'll keep an eye open.
