I have several videos on my YouTube channel showing how to cut various shapes using a trim saw. In the videos, my fingers get pretty close to the blade, which results in comments from people who warn me that I'm going to cut my fingers off. To respond to these comments, I decided to make a video about fingers and rock saws. It might be helpful for people unfamiliar with rock saws here.

It's not the "saw" you need to worry about......it's the type of blade........lol.....any type of rotating blade spinning at +1000 rpms can do appendage damage given enough time and pressure applied...........some just cut and or burn faster and cleaner........lol

Great video!!! It really is a bit intimidating at first.
The first time I saw someone cut into a rock with a diamond blade, I had to put my hands over my eyes and just peek. I was sure I would witness some digital blood.

I have cut my self good a couple of times on my diamond saw when a rock break. the worst is when it cut a notch out between my thumb nail and the meaty part under the nail. I use a 0.012 blade. they can cut and it is a u shaped notch that is basically ground away not like a knife.

The really thin blades can grind into your finger pretty quickly, just like rmf said. Especially the crimped rims.
I've even bumped up against the edge of the segmented Hot Dog blades (.050" rim) without losing blood. The slots between the segments on those are really narrow, though, so they can't grab and rip your skin so easily. Segmented blades with slots cut differently wouldn't be so forgiving.

Excellent video. The good news is I don't now have to do a similar video. I have had one planned since Halloween. I had bought fake blood and severed fingers as a joke for the intro skit. My wife watched your video and tells me that she will no longer give me heck from having my fingers too close to the saw blade. She didn't believe me, but trusts you I guess.

I was going to do something with fake fingers too, but I didn’t know if it would be within YouTube’s policy on violence. So I wimped out and just did this.

I "saw" you had posted this yesterday, but thought it might be longer, so I didn't get to watch it until tonight. Excellent video as always Rob.
