So the truth is my garage is so trashed from four months of floors, painting, baseboards, bathroom remodel, trim, etc. that I can barely see my equipment anymore. But, the good news is this contest theme is motivating me to get it cleaned up and see if my lapidary equipment still works

Ok y'all are lucky lol... That rock MsAli posted won't fit in the saw. It's disheartening because that tornado in it is frickin' sweet. I got a cab preformed and found a punky spot. I need to paint on some super glue and see if it'll hold up otherwise it'll get a buzz cut.

Can't you trim the rough down enough to make it fit?

Not really because the best part is left of center and the left side is tapered almost 45°.

I'm with Robin, excellent prize oldschoolrocker ! Not sure I'll be able to make this month's contest, either. We're right in the middle of a cold snap and the garage is a bit too chilly to be able to work in. But you can bet if I don't I'll be watching from the sidelines!

Ok, this will be my first time entering in to the contest! The rocks from oldschoolrocker put me over the edge. Those are fantastic! Here's my entry. I couldn't find a piece of picture jasper so found a piece of some kind of thunderegg i thought would work. Got the earth in there and i was going for a northern lights effect but i think it ended up looking more like a strong rain shower creating some mist on a hot day.

And here I thought I was being unique. The Thunderegg cab that broke on me was going to be my entry. Good work on yours. Hailstorm, I’d say.

I hadn't thought about the possibility of a thunderegg as an earth/sky scene but it totally works and it's a gorgeous cabochon.

We'll as of this morning I've got mine narrowed down to eleven preforms - and no they are not all Starry Night. I've photographed all of them so I think it's time to put them in a bag and draw one out randomly

Tbh I never thought I'd be participating in a contest but the community here is so supportive and that helps so much.

I'm mentally scanning my material to see if I have anything suitable. Might be an excuse to slab something 🤔 My 18" is running again... send me your favorite big rock and I'll slab it up and send you back a preform heehee gonna load up the FJ...
