I met a new local Rockhound this week and she brought over a big rock that came from Minnesota and wanted to see what it looked like inside. We had to break a piece off to slab. If anyone has any idea what this is, she really wants to know. It's the same all the way through, Medium green with lighter green blotches. Any ideas? Trish

Pics kind of small so it's hard to tell but if it's green it's got to be really cool.

I have no idea what it is. But if you look at it a certian way it looks like clouds up on the sky. Pretty cool

Green Mary Ellen Jasper from the Iron Ranges sometimes has that same color and pattern but the light blotches usually have distinctive rings from the replaced stromatolite fossils. Your pic is pretty small but I can't see any rings. I have red material where the rings are not visable throughout though. Is the stone as hard as jasper?

I've never even heard of Green Mary Ellen Jasper so had to do a search for it. Found this pic that might help you www.rockrough.com/Cugreenme.jpgI wish the mine was still open, it's only about 35 miles from me.

I put up a little larger picture put Photobucket keeps resizing it for me. Still trying to get used to this new camera. It is very solid, and very heavy. Except for the color, it felt like Iron Ore when I lifted it. Must have weighted 30 lbs. It is also very hard. There are no rings or other colors and the lighter green just looks like clouds. It is the same all the way through. Trish

Cher, I sent you an Email with the original picture and zipped it. Thought it would be enormous, but it turned out the same size I have posted here. I've never had that problem before. They ususally turn out too big. Guess I'll have to take another picture. This is just what it looks like for real anyway. Trish

I figured out what the problem is. It's this new camera. I have it set to take Email size pictures, then I'm resizing them. This thing has too many settings. Trish
