It's facinating to hear you guys on yur creativity, can get a little intimidating if I let it. I'm learning how to broaden the horizon in rocks. Haven't become mechanical yet, but it's not all greek like it started out to be.
Your sidelines crack me up

That is a cleaner looking tumbler. I will be getting some golf cart tires with rims this week and try one of those. I put in some screws around the plug and that stopped the leaks so will watch it the rest of the week. Will probably let this run for two weeks before I open it up.

Hey Pho, have you considered putting the wooden plugs on the inside of the tire and using the threaded rod to expand them out onto the inside of the tire lip? You should be able to tighten it down more to get a more secure seal.

OK...I decided to pull one of the plugs and check to see how it was going.....not good.... there was no water in the tire..just a lot of very thick slurry and only 3 rocks were lose..the rest were stuck to the tire. I decided to go ahead and pull all the rocks out and put them in a tire with a rim still in it...not a real easy job but I did get it done. I added almost one gallon of water to this new tire, aired it up and checked it for leaks...no leaks. Got it running right now. It does wobble a lot so added a stablizer bar to stop that. I have an adapter so I can add water thru the valve stem...put in just enough air to keep the beads tight against the rim. So far it's working.

Here ya go Warren....just a normal golf cart tire and rim. I have a place about 2 miles from me that has a big pile of these and sells them for $7.50 each. pho

Don't ya just want to kick yourself for not doing that in the first place? I would have gone at it the same way. But, once you showed this, it's like "Duh, the rim holds AIR in..." Good luck, keep us posted.

Now you can put the tire on the cart and go play 18. Best of both worlds.

I just checked my pet wood and removed almost half of it. Most of the bigger pieces still need a lot more work so I put them back in for another week or so. All the little and mid-sized pieces came out very smooth....just like I would expect from a week in a normal 3 pound tumbler. So..I am recharged and running again with about 10 pounds of bigger pieces for another week and will see what happens then.

Pho, how about the rocks banging against the rim? doesn't that damage them? or did you coat the rim with rubber of some kind?

Pho, I went past your place on 36 yesterday. I so wanted to call, stop in and see Big Boy in action. But my wife and I were bringing her father back to Houston -- he and his wife had a horrific car accident Thursday. Horrific looking, I should say. Miraculously (and that is not a word I throw around a lot), they came out of it with little more than an ankle sprain, swelling and really bad bruising. Hard to believe if you saw the car and heard the details. As you can imagine, they weren't really up for stopping to look at a tumbler, even if he is an engineer and the tumbler was as neat as yours. Another time, perhaps. Hope all is well. matt

Hey Matt..no way I can blame them for not wanting to stop...I think I would have felt the same way. Hope they don't have any hidden problems like neck or back or anything else. Accidents just are no fun...
Tweet..I didn't coat the rim with anything. I could hear the rocks banging against it but don't think it did any damage to the rocks. Now that I have a lot less in the tire it sure sounds different..almost like the rocks are just slidding around instead of tumbling. Time will tell.
